Self-assessment

Which level do I ride or is right for me?

We are regularly confronted with the question: What level of demand do I actually need or can I drive with a clear conscience? It doesn’t matter whether you book a tour, driving technique training or an individual package.

In general, the topic of driving level is divided into two areas: fitness and driving technique, both in 5 levels. We would like to help you to better assess yourself so that you can have more fun on the bike with us and enjoy the tours or riding technique training more intensively.

Micobike offers tours of different levels and it is important to us that the respective groups are in as much harmony as possible. In other words, we don't necessarily want to mix beginners and ambitious drivers unless this is their wish. Our goal is that all participants get their money's worth.

The following descriptions are intended to help you better assess yourself. This makes the later selection of the tour you want to take much easier. In general, the same applies here: If you do another sport regularly or intensively, you can classify yourself as slightly stronger in terms of fitness level.

condition

Level 1:

You are an occasional cyclist, tours of 30 to 40 km on flat terrain are completely sufficient. Climbs are clearly not your discipline.

  • Driving time:  5 - 20 times a year
  • Day tour: 20 - 40 km on flat terrain and at a leisurely pace

Level 2:

You ride your bike about once a week and/or do your daily commute by bike. You enjoy going on tours, but long or steep climbs require more effort.

  • Driving schedule:  regular, often several times a week
  • m per year:  1000 - 2500
  • Day tour: 30 - 50 km with moderate gradients, these can sometimes be longer or steeper

Level 3:

Cycling is definitely one of your hobbies. You cycle twice or more a week and spend your holidays cycling once or several times a year. Depending on your mood, mood and time, you can take part in a bike race every now and then. Basic training in spring is no longer a foreign word. Climbs are fun for you and represent a welcome challenge.

  • Driving load:  at least 2 times per week
  • m per year:  3000 - 7000
  • Day tour:  40 - 70 km, undulating profile with long and sometimes steep climbs, preferably several days  in a row

Level 4:

You are a frequent driver and complete training sessions regularly. You are familiar with performance diagnostics and all relevant forms of training. Use these depending on your time and mood. You compete in competitions several times a year, and in marathon races your goal is to beat your personal best. A “juicy” altitude profile brings joy to your face.

  • Driving time:  3 - 4 times per week
  • Km per year:  8000 - 17000
  • Day tour: pretty much everything that comes along, challenges are welcome

Level 5:

You train at a professional level, usually under supervision, with medical support and technical aids, such as performance measurement and complete recording of all training data. You do at least one recreational sport. Your goal is to win the competition. You train to become faster or to face absolute extremes.

  • Driving time:  5 - 7 times per week
  • Km per year:  over 15000
  • Day tour: The only limit is the head

Driving technique

Level 1:

You enjoy riding your bike and stopping your vehicle safely. However, you move almost exclusively on paved paths. You don't feel comfortable on gravel or unpaved paths, or you tend to overreact in dangerous situations.

Level 2:

Safe braking on any surface, as well as starting off on hills, requires little concentration. You only ride steep descents, washed-out paths, switchbacks in the terrain and single trails with great caution and a “queasy” feeling in your stomach. In general, you are a safe cyclist.

Level 3:

Almost none of the situations mentioned in Level 2 are an issue for you. You enjoy riding single trails and downhill runs give you a lot of joy. Both small jumps in clear terrain and going down stairs are no longer a challenge. However, you will only feel comfortable as long as both wheels are in contact with the ground and the path does not have any steep sections with drops. Steep driveways in impassable terrain will throw you off your stride.

Level 4:

You are looking for the “kick”. Your tours are downhill-oriented and enduro touring is one of your strengths. “Hops” and “drops” suit you well, or you like riding in bike parks. You can master easy downhill and north shore trails at a “leisurely” pace. However, you avoid large jumps or drops and are concerned about your safety. When descending on the tour, the only obstacles that hinder you are passages that are too steep, extreme terrain (e.g. scree) or your fitness level at the end of a long day.

Level 5:

No matter what happens, you will also travel paths that are a challenge even on foot. Downhill, freeride or dirt jump with numerous tricks are your life. The motto: Deeper, steeper and faster, or whatever plays more of a role: “more stylish”. You can travel confidently and quickly even on unknown trails.
